 | Conservation Grants for Minnesota Farmers 3/26/2008 9:15 AMProductive Conservation on Working Lands is a demonstration program that provides incentives to reduce the economic, environmental, and social risks to the farmers growing new alternative conservation crops for energy and emerging industry.
Three Rivers Resource Conservation & Development Council (RC&D), based in Mankato, along with the Minnesota Department of Agriculture, are working to develop and deliver an alternative agricultural program to landowners and/or farmers who would like to be involved in an innovative program that provides sustainable economic opportunities and needed farm diversity while also offering environmental benefits to Minnesota without the idling of lands.
We are administering "Productive Conservation on Working Lands", and we have funding available to Minnesota farmers to assist with the establishment of perennial conservation crops. We are doing a recruitment drive this spring and currently we have funding available for approximately 600 acres at $150 per acre. This is a one time establishment incentive, not a long term easement. Farmers throughout the state are eligbible to apply. Applications will be reviewed throughout the spring of 2008, until the acreage goal is reached.
