Fruit and Vegetable Direct Marketing
Two of the most popular methods for direct sale of fruits and vegetables are farmers' markets and pick-your-own enterprises.  Farmers' markets are seeing rapid growth, with the number of markets in Minnesota up from 55 in 2002 to more than 80 in 2005.

A lesser-known but also growing method for direct sale of produce is Community Supported Agriculture, or CSA.  A CSA farm sells "subscriptions" or "shares" in early spring.  People who buy into the farm then receive a weekly container of produce throughout the growing season.

Roadside stands are a fairly common sight in the countryside.  A sort of farmers' market of one farmer, these are usually located on the farmer's property adjoining a roadway.  They may be staffed, or unstaffed and on the "honor system" for payment.

Sale of some processed foods is permitted at farmers' markets or roadside stands.  For more information see the Farmers' Market Guidelines, and the "Pickle Bill" Information from the Minnesota Department of Agriculture.
