COURSE DESCRIPTION: A critical examination of the role of tourism across the globe. Students will gain an understanding of the global tourism industry, to include tourist generating and receiving areas as well as international tourism organizations and tourism policy. The course will utilize a variety of teaching methods including case examples, lecture, discussions, readings and projects.
COURSE OBJECTIVES
By the end of the course students will be able to:
* Describe the nature and significance of tourism globally * Identify major tourist-generating and tourist-receiving regions and destinations * Describe the role of government(s) in tourism * Analyze the role of major international organizations * Describe the nature of tourism policy and its significance to tourism development * Distinguish between tourism policy and destination management * Identify major issues and trends in international tourism * Demonstrate their understanding through written and oral presentations
