Our work includes teaching lessons on sustainable farming and natural foods in elementary classrooms, and organizing activity-oriented field trips of grade-school children to local, alternative growers. Interns will oversee programming and scheduling for field trips, research food system topics for the elementary curriculum, and assist in preparation and teaching of lessons. Interns should have some experience with organic farming, or cooking with organic food; self-directed organizational skills; and some knowledge of alternative food systems. Minimum duration is 5 weeks at 5 hours per week minimum; 10 weeks is preferred. Stipend of $500 to $1000 per semester is possible. As the Midwest Food Connection does not have a central office, all interns will work out of their homes and clock their own hours. |
